The Central Election Commission (KQZ) has concluded the evaluation process for absentee ballot packages submitted from voters outside of Kosovo via mail. According to the KQZ, the review covered a period from April 9 through April 14, 2026. During this time, the commission processed a total of 85,790 packages submitted for review.
The final tally indicated that 82,809 ballots were deemed approved and valid for consideration, while 2,981 packages were rejected by the electoral body. The KQZ provided a breakdown of the primary reasons for the rejections. The most frequently cited issue was the absence of the required registration booklet, accounting for 2,552 instances of invalidation.
Other noted reasons for rejection included submissions containing more than one ballot per package or originating from multiple individuals (322 cases). Furthermore, the commission identified 23 cases where the ballot was cast from a state different from the voter’s registered location. Minor discrepancies included 32 instances of a missing ballot, 5 cases lacking a proper postal stamp or seal, and one additional case cited in the records.
This comprehensive review process by the KQZ aims to ensure the integrity and proper handling of all mailed ballots. The detailed findings regarding the validity of the submitted ballots will inform the final procedures for the election cycle.
