Debate in Skenderaj follows the closure of a business, VV accuses – Inspectorate denies political motive.

Skenderaj Business Closure Fuels Municipal Debate

The recent closure of a business in Skenderaj by the municipal Inspection Directorate has ignited a public debate and drawn criticism from multiple political factions. The situation centers around accusations of retribution leveled against Mayor Sami Lushtaku and his administration. Hysni Mehani, the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement in Skenderaj, utilized social media to express concerns regarding the closure.

Through a Facebook post, Mehani alleged that the action targeted businesses that have demonstrably supported Bekim Jashari and his party, suggesting it was an act of political reprisal. “The post questioned the motivations behind the closure, specifically asking why businesses aligned with the Vetëvendosje Movement were being penalized while other establishments, potentially presenting similar obstacles, were not,” a statement from Mehani read. He further questioned the rationale behind the selective enforcement.

The closure has intensified the debate surrounding municipal operations in Skenderaj. Mayor Lushtaku’s office has not yet issued a formal response to the accusations. The incident highlights ongoing tensions between the ruling and opposition parties within the municipality.

Further investigation into the reasons for the closure is expected.
