Directors of Serbian institutions in Kosovo are dismissed from their posts

The Basic Court in Pristina has lifted the monthly house arrest measure imposed on the directors of educational and health institutions operating in Kosovo under the Serbian system. These individuals had been charged by the Prosecution with the crime of influencing the free will of voters. The decision comes in the wake of early parliamentary elections held in Kosovo on June 7.

Jovana Filipović, the lawyer representing one of the suspects, confirmed to Radio Free Europe (RFE) that the individuals “will be protected in freedom.” The court had initially instituted the house arrest measure on May 21, citing a real risk that the detainees, if released, might evade criminal responsibility or repeat the alleged criminal act. The detention of the directors of Serbian institutions in Kosovo followed developments involving Nenad Rašić, the leader of the Party for Freedom, Justice, and Survival. The lifting of the house arrest marks a procedural change following the recent electoral cycle.
