“Do not postpone the surgery,” surgeon Arbër Morina warns about the risk of complications from stones in the bladder.

Timely Surgical Intervention Key to Managing Kidney Stones

Urolithiasis, commonly known as kidney stones, represent a prevalent health concern. However, a significant obstacle to effective treatment is patient delays in seeking surgical intervention. On the “Health First” podcast, supported by United Hospital, surgeon Arbër Morina highlighted the importance of prompt action.

Morina stressed that surgical treatment is considerably more effective and carries fewer complications when initiated early in the progression of the condition. “As with any other pathology, when caught early, the treatment is much better and has fewer complications,” he stated. The surgeon explained that prolonged neglect of kidney stone symptoms, such as persistent pain or recurring infections, can significantly complicate the surgical process for the medical team.

Advanced cases, according to Morina, pose a heightened risk, potentially leading to the spread of infection to surrounding organs including the skull, intestines, and liver. “If the patient neglects the problem and continuously experiences pain or infections, the situation becomes more complicated for the surgeons as well,” Morina warned. He emphasized the critical role of early diagnosis and surgical intervention in optimizing patient outcomes.
