Doctors from the diaspora will connect with patients in the country through telemedicine.

North Macedonia to Utilize Telemedicine to Address Healthcare Shortages

Health Minister Azir Aliu has announced that telemedicine will be a central strategy for bolstering the nation’s healthcare system and mitigating the ongoing shortage of doctors within the country. The announcement follows concerns regarding the increasing number of healthcare professionals leaving North Macedonia for opportunities abroad. Minister Aliu highlighted this challenge, stating that a key component of the solution involves leveraging the expertise of the country’s significant diaspora.

“We have a large number of doctors in the diaspora who are highly skilled specialists, respected in their respective fields,” he explained. “We aim to utilize this human capacity effectively.”

The initiative will utilize technology to enable these doctors to contribute to North Macedonia’s healthcare system remotely. Telemedicine will facilitate direct or remote consultations and support, addressing accessibility issues and expanding healthcare services.

“Telemedicine will allow these professionals to contribute directly or remotely to the healthcare system of North Macedonia,” Minister Aliu stated. The government intends to foster collaboration with the diaspora, recognizing their valuable skills and experience to strengthen healthcare provision across the country.
