Emini: Kosovo lost a year to political crisis, now it also risks its European chance

Political analyst and civil society activist Donika Emini has assessed that Kosovo remains vulnerable to continued political instability following the recent June 7 elections. Emini cautioned that if the necessary institutional frameworks are not rapidly established, the nation risks losing a critical opportunity within its European integration trajectory. Speaking on the “Përballje Podcast” via Telegrafi, Emini contended that the electoral process did not resolve the core political issues; rather, it appears to have merely transitioned the conflict into a new, equally ambiguous phase.

According to Emini, the underlying political difficulties persist, suggesting that the expected resolution did not materialize with the polls. “There is always the fear that the political crisis will continue. For me, the political crisis did not end on June 7.

It has only opened the way to another situation that is equally unclear,” Emini stated, as reported by Telegrafi. Her analysis suggests that the current political climate has seen Kosovo regress significantly, returning to a point of uncertainty comparable to the period preceding the elections. Emini’s assessment emphasizes that while elections are a key democratic milestone, they alone are insufficient to resolve deep-seated political disagreements or structural weaknesses.

The urgency, according to Emini, lies in the swift formation of functional institutions to navigate the path toward deeper integration with European structures, thereby mitigating the risk of a prolonged political crisis.
