Emini: The blockade creates a favorable position for Vetëvendosje, the weak and divided opposition

Political analyst Donika Emini contends that the institutional crisis facing Kosovo requires fundamental shifts in inter-party cooperation, arguing that neither forthcoming elections nor decisions by the Constitutional Court will provide a sustainable resolution without a genuine willingness for compromise among the involved political parties. Speaking to Radio Free Europe, Emini noted that the various political factions remain deeply entrenched in their current positions, making an agreement for the election of the president highly unlikely in the near term. According to Emini, any temporary lifting of the current political blockade would prove unsustainable unless the underlying relationship dynamics between the parties are fundamentally altered.

She warns that without addressing these core issues, the country risks reverting to previous points of deadlock. Furthermore, Emini assessed the current power structure, suggesting that the continuation of the blockade has placed the Vetëvendosje Movement in a relatively favorable position. She elaborated that the existing government continues to exert its authority without the necessary oversight provided by a fully functional Assembly.

Overall, Emini’s analysis emphasizes that the resolution of Kosovo’s political instability hinges less on procedural outcomes and more on a breakthrough in the political willingness of the main parties to engage in mutual compromise.
