Fake messages regarding traffic fines, Police issues urgent guidelines

The Kosovo police have issued a public warning concerning a recent surge of fraudulent messages impersonating official Kosovo institutions. According to an official announcement, authorities have identified a deceptive SMS campaign targeting citizens. These fraudulent messages falsely claim that recipients have outstanding traffic fines and urge them to click on embedded links to process payments or retrieve further details.

The police explicitly stated that these communications are not official. They strongly cautioned the public against clicking on any suspicious links, divulging personal information, or sharing banking details in response to such text messages. Authorities advised citizens to exercise extreme caution when encountering payment requests via text message.

If individuals receive such suspicious messages, the police recommend that they delete the messages immediately. Furthermore, recipients are advised to report the incident to the relevant official institutions and to contact their bank directly if they are concerned about potential fraud. The police reiterated that legitimate government communications will not require citizens to pay fines or provide sensitive data through unsolicited text messages.
