Federal agents arrested Hamideh Soleimani Afshar, 47, and her daughter, Sarinasadat Hosseiny, 25, last week in Los Angeles. The women are the mother and daughter-in-law of Qassem Soleimani, a deceased former general of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The arrests stem from allegations that the pair were living a lavish lifestyle in the United States while promoting Islamist terrorism globally.
According to reports, Soleimani Afshar and Hosseiny frequently posted images on Instagram – now deleted – showcasing their travels across the country. These posts depicted the pair’s activities, including celebrations in Miami, vacations in Alaska, and attendance at nightclubs in Las Vegas. They also included photographs of luxury items, such as champagne being served before a helicopter ride in an unidentified desert location.
The investigation revealed that Soleimani Afshar and Hosseiny had been living in the United States despite Soleimani’s designation as a terrorist. Authorities seized assets associated with the pair, including a private jet and a helicopter used for a trip to a helicopter factory in Shiraz, Iran.
