Brazilian Fitness Influencer Dies During Ironman Texas Swim

Mara Flavia Souza Araujo, a Brazilian fitness influencer, died following an incident during the swimming portion of the Ironman Texas race held on Lake Woodlands near Houston. Authorities confirmed the 38-year-old was reported as a “lost swimmer” at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Initial search and rescue efforts were hampered by challenging conditions on the lake. Divers from multiple agencies were deployed and, after approximately 90 minutes, located Ms. Araujo at a depth of approximately 3 meters.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department confirmed her identity and stated that she was participating in the event when the incident occurred. NBC News reported that the MCSO can confirm that Mara Flavia Souza Araujo, 38 years old, from Brazil, died while competing in the Ironman event in The Woodlands.
