Hotel Manager Identified After Crocodile Attack in Kruger National Park
Authorities in South Africa have identified Gabriel Batista, 59, a hotel manager, following his death after an encounter with a crocodile in the Kruger National Park. The incident occurred while Batista was following a riverbank, according to reports. A police diving team, utilizing a helicopter, successfully transported the crocodile from a river island after it had consumed Batista.
The reptile was subsequently examined, and its belly was opened to reveal the remains of the deceased. Captain Joey Potgieter of the South African Police Force conducted an on-site autopsy, leading to the grim discovery of Batista’s remains. The autopsy revealed the presence of two severed arms, attached to the hands, along with approximately half of the ribcage and portions of breast meat within the crocodile’s stomach.
DNA analysis confirmed the remains belonged to Batista, confirming he was tragically taken by the animal. The circumstances surrounding the attack are currently under investigation. Batista was working as a hotel manager at the time of the incident.
The discovery was dramatically facilitated by the specialized operations of the police diving team.
