Gucati “returns” to The Hague with 200,000 signatures for the release of UÇK commanders

Albanians Mobilize Support for Former KLA Commanders Ahead of Hague Decision

Demonstrations and petitions in Pristina, Hague, Tirana, Strasbourg, and Skopje reflected widespread Albanian concern regarding the upcoming decision of the Special Chamber concerning former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) commanders. Just weeks before the court’s ruling, the Chamber is set to receive a petition representing significant public support for the individuals involved. Approximately 200,000 signatures, gathered over the past two months, will be submitted to the Special Chamber by Hysni Gucati, head of OVL-UÇK.

Gucati, who was previously sentenced for obstructing justice and released from prison in 2023, will present the petition on Wednesday. The initiative, launched two months prior, aims to advocate for the values associated with the KLA. According to organizers, roughly 70,000 signatures were collected through online channels, with the total number of signatories estimated at around 200,000, encompassing both online and physical submissions.

The petition represents a concerted effort to influence the Special Chamber’s deliberations regarding the fate of the KLA commanders in Hague. The movement highlights ongoing debate surrounding the legacy of the conflict and the legal proceedings.
