PDK Declares President’s Issue Closed Following Negotiations with Vetëvendosje
Kosovar Democratic Party (PDK) leader Bedri Hamza announced Wednesday that the party considers the matter of the presidential candidacy to be resolved. Speaking at a press conference, Hamza reiterated the PDK’s stance that the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) has not demonstrated a willingness to reach a consensus. Hamza explained that the PDK had previously offered support for a consensus candidate for the presidency, emphasizing that this would be “without being involved in government.” He detailed communications with Vetëvendosje Movement leader Albin Kurti.
Kurti reportedly proposed that PDK deputies remain present during presidential sessions and, in return, the PDK would offer the position of Speaker of Parliament. “This is not serious,” Hamza stated. “We are not talking about the Speaker of Parliament.” He indicated that he had received a communication from Kurti, but that Kurti’s offer was not a viable solution for the PDK.
The PDK, led by Hamza, maintains its position that a resolution to the presidential impasse requires a different approach. The statement reflects ongoing negotiations between the PDK and LVV regarding the selection of a new president for Kosovo.
