The Democratic Party of Kosovo (DPK) stated it requires no concessions regarding the selection of a president, responding to Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s recent proposals. Deputy Enver Hoxhaj of the DPK criticized Kurti’s plan to hold new elections as an unserious attempt to resolve the ongoing political impasse. Hoxhaj asserted that Kurti’s strategy demonstrates a lack of commitment to governing, particularly as Kosovo faces a potentially challenging period marked by heightened political instability.
He expressed concerns that further elections could exacerbate the existing crisis. Earlier this week, Kurti presented offers from both the People’s Democratic Party (PDK) and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDK). The PDK’s proposal involved the position of Assembly Speaker in exchange for presidential support, while the LDK offered a coalition agreement or a vice-president role within parliament.
However, both offers were ultimately rejected by the DPK and LDK, who maintained their stance against electing a president through a new electoral process. The parties remain entrenched in their positions, with Hoxhaj’s comments reflecting the DPK’s determination to resist Kurti’s proposed path forward.
