Hoxhaj: PDK Does Not Require Speaker Role, Kurti’s Offer Anticipates New Elections
Kosovar Democratic Party (PDK) deputy Enver Hoxhaj stated that the party does not require the position of Speaker of Parliament, responding to Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s recent proposal. Hoxhaj characterized Kurti’s offer as an attempt to utilize the parliamentary seat as a means of influencing the upcoming presidential election. Speaking on April 23, 2026, Hoxhaj asserted that Kurti’s actions demonstrate a lack of seriousness within the process.
He believes the Prime Minister is strategically positioning the Speaker’s role for consideration in future elections. “Kurti is sending the seat to new elections,” Hoxhaj declared. According to Hoxhaj, this approach indicates Kurti’s unwillingness to establish stable governance.
He further expressed concern that this situation could exacerbate the existing political crisis within Kosovo, particularly as the nation enters a potentially challenging period. Kurti had presented proposals involving the PDK and LDK parties earlier this week, offering the Speaker’s position in exchange for support in electing a president. Hoxhaj maintains that the PDK does not need this role.
