Hypertension Rates Rise in Kosovo, Study Reveals

PRISTINA – Kosovo is experiencing a significant increase in chronic, non-communicable diseases, particularly hypertension and diabetes, according to a new analysis by the Institute of Public Health. In 2024, over 21,000 cases of arterial hypertension were recorded, representing a 4.7% rise compared to the previous year. The findings highlight hypertension as the most prevalent diagnosis in the country, contributing significantly to overall morbidity and mortality rates.

The Institute’s report indicates that hypertension remains a leading cause of illness and death within the nation. Notably, the number of hypertension cases reflects a growing concern regarding the prevalence of these conditions within the Kosovan population. Further research is needed to understand the underlying factors contributing to this trend.
