A mural commemorating the survivors of sexual violence that occurred during the last war in Kosovo was unveiled today in Peja, located near the Cadastre building. The unveiling ceremony brought together representatives from various local and international organizations. Dignitaries present at the event included the Mayor of Peja Municipality, Gazmend Muhaxheri, the French Ambassador to Kosovo, Olivier Guérot, and the former President of the Republic of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga.
Organizers stated that the mural’s core feature is a symbolic brooch crafted by the very survivors who endured sexual violence during the conflict, and who are affiliated with the center in Drenica. This brooch serves as the emblem for the “Çast” Museum. This museum functions as a memorial and a space for reflection dedicated to honoring the survivors of sexual violence experienced in Kosovo.
The establishment of the museum is attributed to the Jahjaga Foundation. The unveiling marks a significant public acknowledgment of the trauma endured by these survivors and the ongoing efforts to preserve their memory and support their recovery within the community of Peja.
