Preliminary results from the 2026 municipal elections suggest a notable realignment of the political landscape across Kosovo, indicating significant shifts in voter support for major parties at both the municipal and national levels. Both the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic Party of Kosovo have experienced a measurable decline in votes compared to the 2025 elections, with support waning particularly in urban centers and key municipalities. The Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) recorded an overall decrease of 134,813 votes.
The most substantial losses were concentrated in several key areas: Prizren saw a decrease of 12,516 votes, Pristina experienced a drop of 11,731 votes, Podujevë reported a loss of 9,853 votes, Ferizaj saw a decline of 9,365 votes, and Gjilan recorded a drop of 8,588 votes. Collectively, in just the ten municipalities registering the largest decreases, the LVV lost over 85,000 votes. This trend suggests a discernible contraction of the movement’s support base in regions where it had previously held significant dominance.
These figures point toward a broader re-evaluation of voter allegiance among the various political groups. The pattern of vote decline across multiple municipalities suggests that the electoral support structure is undergoing a substantial adjustment, impacting the overall standing of the major participating parties.
