Prishtina Municipality Issues Fines for Illegal Waste Dumping
The Prishtina Municipality has been issuing fines to residents for the disposal of inert and bulky waste within the capital city over the past three weeks. The penalties range from 200 to 800 euros, with dozens of citations already issued. The action is part of an ongoing effort to address illegal waste management practices.
Concerns have been raised regarding the persistence of the issue, as reported by Alban Ymeri, head of the municipal administration. Ymeri’s “Cleaning” enterprise has documented numerous instances of inert waste being dumped in the city center, despite the prohibition against such activity. While the Prime Minister has designated a specific location on “Qendra” Street for waste disposal, some individuals continued to utilize the city center as a solution.
Ymeri stated that the municipality has been conducting inspections for three consecutive weeks to address the problem. Despite the municipal efforts, the head of the “Cleaning” enterprise expressed some skepticism about the extent of the dumping, although he personally observed dozens of instances throughout the capital. The municipality continues to pursue enforcement measures, issuing fines to deter further illegal dumping of waste.
