Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Tuesday accusing the United States of repeatedly violating an existing embargo and conducting attacks against Iranian commercial vessels. The Ministry asserted that the US has continued what it termed “illegal and unjust actions” since the embargo was imposed, citing numerous maritime seizures targeting Iranian commercial vessels. Specifically, Iran accused Washington of flagrantly violating the embargo within the Hormozgan region over the preceding 28 hours.
The Strait of Hormuz, which is the subject of these claims, is located along the southern coast of the Hormozgan region of Iran. Separately, reports indicated that in Lebanon, Israeli attacks resulted in 31 fatalities, representing one of the deadliest days since the embargo was enacted. Furthermore, it was reported that US military forces conducted “defensive strikes” on Friday.
