Iran executes two for “spying for Israel”

Iran Executes Two More Individuals on Espionage Charges

TEHRAN – Iran has executed two additional individuals, bringing the total number of executions linked to espionage allegations to at least four in recent weeks. The executions were carried out on charges of collaborating with Israel, according to Iranian judicial officials. The latest executions involved Yaqub Karimpour and Nasser Bakarzadeh, who were convicted by Iranian courts of providing intelligence to Israeli authorities.

Iranian media reports state that Karimpour was found to have “effectively collaborated” with Mossad during the 2025 June 12-day conflict, allegedly transmitting classified information to Israel’s intelligence service. The Supreme Court supported the death sentences. This development follows a broader trend of executions within Iran, a move that has faced international condemnation.

The head of Iran’s judicial system recently rejected calls for a halt to the executions, asserting a firm stance with no intention of altering the course of proceedings. The cases highlight ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel, and the Iranian government’s continued use of espionage accusations as justification for capital punishment. The Activist Lawyers’ News Agency reported on the executions.

  1. This continued use of the death penalty for alleged espionage is deeply concerning and highlights the ongoing human rights issues in Iran.
