Iran: We are not ready for further talks with the United States

Iran Declares End to Talks with U.S. Over Demands

Iranian officials have announced they will not pursue further talks with the United States regarding a potential agreement until the U.S. modifies its negotiating positions.

The statement follows unsuccessful weekend negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan, where American and Iranian delegations convened with Pakistan acting as a mediator. Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh stated that Iran would not engage in additional discussions “as long as it changes its maximalist demands.” The initial talks, which lasted less than a day, concluded without a resolution. Earlier this week, the White House indicated a potential second round of discussions was planned in Islamabad, with Pakistan continuing its role as the primary intermediary between the two nations.

Despite previous optimism, including comments from former President Trump suggesting a deal was imminent, with three remaining obstacles, Khatibzadeh emphasized Iran’s desire to establish a “framework agreement” prior to any subsequent meetings. The declaration effectively ends the immediate prospect of renewed negotiations, highlighting a significant impasse in the ongoing discussions. The future of diplomatic efforts between the two countries remains uncertain.
