Kallas: Europe should not demean itself by seeking negotiations with Russia.

Kallas Urges Europe to Maintain Firm Stance on Russia Negotiations

Brussels – High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has cautioned Europe against pursuing negotiations with Russia at this time. Speaking following a meeting of the Nordic-Baltic countries, Kallas emphasized the need for a strategy focused on compelling Russia into a genuine peace dialogue. According to Kallas, current circumstances offer no indication of Russia’s willingness to engage in serious discussions.

She stressed the importance of a unified European Union position regarding Russia’s demands before any potential dialogue can be considered. “Europe should not undermine itself by seeking negotiations with Russia,” Kallas stated. “Instead, we must create a situation where it is forced to enter a true peace dialogue.”

The remarks follow discussions concerning the ongoing war in Ukraine and broader European security.

EU foreign ministers are scheduled to convene in Cyprus to further examine the bloc’s approach to Russia. The meeting will prioritize achieving an end to the conflict and establishing a framework for European security. Kallas reiterated the need for a coordinated and resolute response from the European Union.
