KESCO Shuts Down Unit A4 at “Kosova A” Plant Following Water Leaks

Prishtina – KESCO announced the controlled shutdown of Unit A4 at the “Kosova A” Thermal Power Plant due to water leaks within the condenser, specifically in the over-heat zone. The action was taken following a thorough assessment by KESCO’s professional staff. According to a KESCO statement, the shutdown was determined to be a necessary safety precaution, aligning with established technical and safety standards.

The primary goal was to prevent potentially substantial and unanticipated damage to the unit’s equipment. “This intervention was carried out to preserve the technical integrity of the unit and the safety of operation,” the statement read. The leak was identified within a critical area of the condenser.

KESCO emphasized that the shutdown was conducted in accordance with rigorous protocols. Following the shutdown, KESCO, in collaboration with the Albanian Energy Corporation (KESH), has successfully secured a significant portion of the lost electricity generation capacity through electricity exchange agreements. This arrangement will continue until Unit A4 is safely returned to operation.

The focus remains on restoring full power generation capacity at the “Kosova A” plant.
