German footballing expert Jürgen Klinsmann has sharply criticized Italian football, arguing that promising young talents like Lamine Yamal and Jamal Musiala would not have opportunities to compete at the highest level within the country. In an interview with RAI, Klinsmann questioned Italy’s approach to developing youth players, suggesting a preference for more established routes over nurturing emerging talent. “In Italy, Lamine Yamal and Jamal Musiala might play in Serie B to gain experience,” Klinsmann stated.
“And that shouldn’t happen.”
The former coach, who previously worked with stars such as Bastian Schweinsteiger and Lukas Podolski, argued that the Italian system lacks confidence in young players and fails to highlight potential talent capable of reaching the elite level. Klinsmann expressed concern about the prioritization of established players over developing prospects. He believes the Italian footballing structure doesn’t adequately support the growth and advancement of promising young players.
