Konjufca Urges Separation of Politics from Special Chambers Proceedings
Glauk Konjufca, Deputy Leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, has issued a call for a dispassionate approach to the proceedings within the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo, concerning the trial of former leaders of the UÇK (Kosovo Liberation Army). Speaking to Debat Plus, Konjufca emphasized the critical link between the Special Court’s work and the broader context of Kosovo’s statehood, the UÇK’s legacy, and its accomplishments. Konjufca stated that the case directly relates to the future of Kosovo and the historical actions of the UÇK.
He urged citizens and political parties to distinguish between political disagreements and the judicial process surrounding former members of the UÇK, including former President Hashim Thaçi and former Deputy Rexhep Selimi. “My call is this, please, even you who had clashes with Hashim Thaçi in 1990, I had after 2005, believe that what you had against…” Konjufca concluded, highlighting the need for a measured perspective. The focus, according to Konjufca, should remain on the core issues impacting Kosovo and the legacy of the UÇK, rather than allowing personal animosity to influence the proceedings.
This statement reflects a desire to ensure the Special Chambers process is viewed objectively within the context of Kosovo’s ongoing development.
