Kosovo: “My Homeland,” Albania’s integration into the EU within my term

EU Urges Accelerated Negotiation Process for Albania Membership

Brussels – The European Union has signaled a renewed commitment to accelerating the negotiation process for Albania’s potential membership, emphasizing the need for swift closure of outstanding chapters. Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, during a recent visit to Slovakia, highlighted the progress made by Albania. Kos stated that Albania has successfully opened all negotiation chapters within the EU accession process.

Brussels’ current objective is to facilitate a rapid progression towards the completion of these chapters. The commissioner referenced the ongoing negotiation with Montenegro, which began in 2009, to illustrate the EU’s sustained focus on enlargement. “We want all countries in the region to become full members of the EU with full rights,” Kos affirmed.

She underscored the importance of a streamlined negotiation process, aiming for expeditious closure of each chapter. The EU continues to view expansion as a key element of its foreign policy, and the Albania negotiation process remains a central priority. Further details regarding the timeline for chapter closure are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

The focus remains on advancing the negotiation process for Albania.
