EU Commissioner Emphasizes Western Balkans Stability for European Security
Brussels – European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, stated on Monday that the security of Europe is inextricably linked to the stability of the Western Balkans region. Following the inaugural ministerial meeting of the Friends of the Western Balkans Group in Bratislava, Slovakia, Kos underscored the need for the European Union to accelerate integration efforts within the region. The meeting, attended by foreign ministers from participating nations, focused on practical steps to bring the Western Balkans – encompassing countries such as Kosovo – more closely aligned with European structures.
Kos highlighted the current situation, noting that only Croatia and Slovenia currently hold membership within the EU. “The security of Europe is very closely linked to stability in the Western Balkans,” Kos commented. “Therefore, we must find practical ways to bring the region closer to the European Union.”
Participants discussed strategies to bolster economic cooperation and address existing challenges within the Western Balkans.
