Former Kosovo MP Criticizes Kurti’s Leadership, Citing Concerns Over Democratic State
Prishtina – Former Kosovo Democratic Party (PDK) MP, Mërgim Lushtaku, has voiced strong criticism of Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s leadership, characterizing it as authoritarian. Speaking on “Eight O’Clock,” Lushtaku asserted that the PDK opposed the establishment of an authoritarian state, a position reflected in the party’s decision not to vote for the country’s president. Lushtaku argued that Kurti’s actions represent an overstep of democratic principles, stating that the Prime Minister’s character and governance demonstrate an authoritarian approach.
He emphasized that the sacrifices made by citizens, including disabled individuals and veterans, were intended to establish a functioning democratic state. “We said we were against an authoritarian state, and this is very authoritarian as a personality and character, and by giving him the position of president, certainly oversteps and then loses the sense of democracy,” Lushtaku stated. He underscored the importance of maintaining a democratic framework, highlighting the contributions of those who have worked towards this goal.
Lushtaku’s comments come as ongoing debate surrounds the direction of the Kosovo government and its commitment to democratic values.
