Kurti outlines offers for LDK and PDK: They rejected a coalition government.

Kurti Urges Against New Elections in Kosovo

Prishtina, Kosovo – Prime Minister of Kosovo and leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, has strongly advocated against holding new elections for the country’s presidency, asserting that the current 10th Legislature should complete the constitutional process. In a public statement, Kurti argued that pursuing new elections would be “unnecessary” and would result in a significant waste of time and financial resources. Kurti highlighted the considerable cost associated with conducting a new electoral process, estimating it would “at least 10 million euros” for his own organization alone.

He further cautioned that an institutional blockade would likely exacerbate these financial losses. The core of the impasse, according to Kurti, remains the difficulty in securing a majority within the Parliament – specifically, the 80-member majority required to elect the President. He stated that a new electoral cycle would not fundamentally address this challenge, and the outcome of a revised process remains uncertain.

Kurti’s position reflects a desire to maintain the existing government structure and prioritize the efficient functioning of the Kosovo institutions. The debate centers on the constitutional requirement for a presidential election and the obstacles preventing its resolution within the current legislative framework.

  1. “It’s a disappointing turn of events, and I worry about the continued instability in Kosovo.”
