Kurti speaks of a compromise on the president: We are open to solutions that respond to the will of the citizen

Kurti Signals Willingness for Compromise on President Appointment

PRISHTINA – Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced a willingness to pursue compromise regarding the selection of a president, stating that holding elections is not a viable path forward. Speaking on April 20, 2026, Kurti emphasized the approaching constitutional deadline and the importance of finding a solution. “We are in the final part of April, and before us there is a constitutional deadline that is approaching,” Kurti stated.

“I believe going to elections is not an option; the election of the president is a constitutional duty.”

Kurti indicated that achieving a majority requiring 80 votes within the parliament is unattainable. He asserted the need for sincere dialogue and a willingness to compromise to address the situation. “This requires a will for solutions, willingness for compromise, and difficult decisions,” he explained.

The Prime Minister affirmed that his government is open to solutions that align with the will of the citizen. Kurti’s comments represent a shift in tone, suggesting a commitment to finding a constitutional resolution to the ongoing debate surrounding the appointment of the president. The focus remains on navigating the constitutional process and securing a result that reflects the interests of the nation.
