Six weeks after the initial concerns regarding water quality in Gostivar, the Social Democratic League of Macedonia (LSDM) has publicly questioned the lack of a comprehensive, official analysis of the water supply. The opposition party has directed its inquiries toward Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and the director of the Institute of Public Health, Shaban Klekovski, demanding clarification on the delay in releasing the full report. The LSDM noted that the public discourse surrounding the water’s safety has been marked by inconsistency.
According to the party’s statement, the public received a series of fluctuating advisories. At one point, a ban was imposed on the water’s use. This was later followed by reports suggesting the water was suitable only for technical purposes, and subsequent reports mentioned the presence of new bacteria and viruses.
Most recently, citizens were assured that the water was safe for consumption. However, the LSDM emphasized that despite these varied assurances, the complete, official documentation remains unpublished. The opposition party contends that this lack of transparency erodes public trust.
They are seeking accountability from both the Prime Minister and the Institute director regarding the timeline and the content of the final report. The core demand centers on the immediate publication of the full water quality analysis, arguing that the inconsistent messaging and the withholding of the definitive document are causing considerable uncertainty among residents. The focus remains on establishing a clear, scientifically backed record to address community concerns.
