Opposition Cites Rising Debt Under Current Government
The LSDP opposition party has voiced serious concerns regarding the current government’s fiscal policy, alleging a sustained increase in national debt. The party asserts that future generations will bear the consequences of the government’s financial decisions. According to LSDP figures, a new debt of 700 million euros has been accumulated during the first three months of 2024.
This adds to the existing public debt, which has risen to 10 billion 774 million euros over the past two years of Hristjan Mickoski’s leadership. The opposition contends that this increase represents entirely new debt, excluding previously reversed expenditures. They state that 2.3 billion euros has been incurred through new loan agreements.
“We are clear: this is entirely new debt,” stated an LSDP representative. “Everything that has been reversed is now accounted for in calculations. It concerns net loans, created directly by this incompetent and broken government.”
The party emphasizes the long-term implications of this debt accumulation, highlighting the total figure of 10 billion 774 million euros as the highest level of public debt in the country’s history.
The figures are presented in euros.
