Greek Petroleum Imports Dominate Market, Consumption Fluctuates

According to data released in the Annual Report on the work of the Regulatory Commission for Energy, Water and Municipal Waste Management (KRRE) for 2025, Greece heavily relied on imported petroleum products throughout the past year. Approximately 87% of all petroleum products were sourced from Greece. The report highlights a significant increase in domestic sales, rising by 4.88% over the previous year.

This growth was driven primarily by increases in gasoline consumption, up 8.34% compared to 2024, alongside rises in oil (5.17%), light extra oil (2.23%), and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at 3.55%. However, certain sectors experienced declines. Aviation fuel consumption decreased substantially by -53.29%, while biodiesel saw a reduction of -2.52%.

The overall consumption structure remains dominated by diesel fuel, accounting for 74.16% of total usage, followed by unleaded gasoline. The data indicates a reliance on imported oil throughout the year, and reflects fluctuating consumption patterns across various petroleum products. Further analysis of these trends will be included in subsequent KRRE reports.
