Macedonian Customs: Doctor and Nurse Seize 199 Bottles of Counterfeit Botox from Korea

A Macedonian Customs investigation has resulted in accusations of smuggling and customs fraud against a doctor and a nurse. The individuals are alleged to have attempted to illegally import 199 vials of the brand “Botox” into Macedonia by misrepresenting the goods to customs authorities. According to documentation released by Customs, the shipment consisted of Sotorior brand Botox.

The criminal case is currently under review by the Public Prosecution in Skopje, which has issued a search warrant targeting three specific locations. Preliminary investigation details reveal that the doctor, who is affiliated with the “Nënë Tereza” Clinical Center, was responsible for the acquisition. He reportedly ordered the 199 vials of Botox, valued at 615,000 denars, from a company based in South Korea.

To facilitate the shipment, the doctor allegedly coordinated with the second suspect, the nurse, to fraudulently declare the substantial medical consignment. Instead of declaring the actual contents, the paperwork reportedly listed the shipment as merely ten pieces of cosmetic products with a declared total value of 80 US dollars. The authorities are investigating the discrepancy between the actual high-value medical supply—the Botox—and the minimal declaration made at the border.

The ongoing probe focuses on the methods used to bypass proper customs declarations, leading to charges of smuggling and financial fraud against the medical professionals involved.
