Macron: Peace talks between US and Iran will continue

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that discussions between the United States and Iran will proceed throughout the 60-day timeframe allocated for establishing a permanent peace agreement. This statement follows earlier remarks from former US President Donald Trump, who had declared the ceasefire between the US and Iran to be concluded. The current ceasefire was established after both nations agreed to a memorandum of understanding.

This agreement stipulated a 60-day period dedicated to negotiations aimed at achieving a final, long-term peace. Speaking at the NATO summit in Ankara, Macron confirmed that meetings involving American and Iranian representatives will continue during this designated negotiation window. According to Macron, Iran’s retaliatory strikes against US bases in the Gulf region constituted a breach of the interim peace accord.

The memorandum was digitally signed by the US president and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on June 17. Consequently, of the 60 days set aside for these diplomatic efforts, 39 days remain for further discussions between the parties.
