March 3, AKG warns: Pressure and abusive language towards media in Kosovo

Kosovo Journalists’ Association Expresses Concerns Over Press Freedom Challenges

On World Press Freedom Day, the Kosovo Journalists’ Association (AGK) voiced continued concerns regarding the operating environment for journalists within the country. The association highlighted ongoing instances of pressure and attacks faced by media professionals in the exercise of their duties. A central issue identified by the AGK is a sustained campaign, primarily led by the Government of Kosovo and the Vetëvendosje (Self-Determination) ruling party, aimed at diminishing the credibility of the media.

According to the AGK’s statement, this campaign involves the use of derogatory language intended to erode public confidence in journalistic reporting. The association emphasized the importance of respecting the role of the media within Kosovo’s democratic development. They called upon governmental institutions and political actors to refrain from actions that could impede the ability of journalists to operate freely and effectively.

“Journalists and media remain a target of attacks through the derogatory language aimed at undermining public trust in their reporting,” the AGK statement reads. The AGK maintains that a free and independent press is a crucial element in fostering a healthy and functioning society.
