Albania Targeted for Potential EU Accession by 2030
Albania could potentially join the European Union before 2030, according to a timeline outlined by Prime Minister Rama. This goal is being pursued alongside other Western Balkan countries, with significant progress being made in Montenegro. During a discussion at the Atlantic Council, European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, addressed the challenges and opportunities facing candidate countries in the region.
Kos highlighted Montenegro and Albania as key examples of nations striving for EU membership. The conversation centered on the protracted accession process experienced by many countries. Notably, Montenegro is aiming to complete all negotiation chapters by the end of this year, while Albania has stated its intention to finalize negotiations by the end of next year.
Commissioner Marta Kos was specifically questioned about the realism of Montenegro’s “28 by 28” slogan – referring to achieving full membership by the country’s 28th anniversary. The discussion underscored the dedication of Albania and other countries within the Western Balkans to meeting the stringent requirements for EU integration. Further progress will depend on continued commitment and successful navigation of ongoing negotiations.
