Ministry opens sanitary landfills for citizens – fee of 10.31 euros per ton

The Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning, and Infrastructure has announced a new initiative designed to improve waste management practices across the region. As part of an effort to formalize waste disposal, the Ministry has authorized citizens to deposit their refuse at the designated sanitary landfills operated by the Company for Waste Management in Kosovo (KMDK). This development marks a significant procedural change, as the Ministry stated that this offers the public the first opportunity to utilize the established sanitary facilities for waste drop-off.

Officials described the move as a crucial step toward mitigating the problem of illegal dumping sites, thereby establishing a more regulated, secure, and legally compliant system for managing waste materials. To facilitate this transition, waste acceptance points will be active at four specific locations: Mirash, Landovicë, Velekincë, and Dumnicë. The public can utilize these services every Saturday, operating from 08:00 to 16:00.

A standardized fee of 10 will apply for the disposal service. The Ministry emphasized that this structured approach is intended to enhance environmental sanitation and ensure that waste materials are processed through appropriate channels. By channeling waste away from unregulated sites and into the managed sanitary landfills, authorities aim to improve public health outcomes and bolster overall environmental compliance within the municipalities served by the KMDK network.
