The Ministry of Industry, Economy, Trade and Innovation (MINTI) has announced significant regulatory action against KEDS following a comprehensive verification process involving consumer-complained electric meters. The inspection, conducted throughout the month of May, was carried out in collaboration with the Kosovo Metrology Agency to assess the accuracy and compliance of residential and commercial metering equipment. According to data provided by the Metrology Agency, the review identified several deficiencies across the installed meters.
Specifically, inspectors noted that 18 units had expired validity dates, 2 meters lacked current type approval, and an additional 30 meters were found to contain inaccuracies related to their date and timekeeping mechanisms. In accordance with the stipulations outlined in the Law on Metrology, the Central Market Inspectorate utilized these findings to levy substantial penalties. Consequently, KEDS was issued total fines amounting to €110,000.
This enforcement action underscores the regulatory commitment to ensuring the reliability and accuracy of the electrical infrastructure. The investigation focused on verifying that all electric meters meet current technical standards and provide reliable measurements for consumers. The substantial fines levied against KEDS are a direct result of non-compliance regarding the operational status and certification of the inspected meters.
MINTI stated that such verification processes are routine to protect consumer interests and maintain the integrity of the energy measurement system.
