The Ministry of Interior held a ceremony today marking the formal handover of specialized assets and materials funded through the regional IPA EU4FAST project. The initiative, titled “EU Support for Strengthening the Fight Against Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking in the Western Balkans,” aims to bolster regional security efforts. Minister of Interior, Pançe Toshkovski, addressed the event, overseeing the official transfer of resources designated for key anti-trafficking units.
The donation package included a variety of essential operational items intended to enhance border security and investigative capabilities. Specifically, the handover comprised thirty document control devices, two advanced heartbeat detectors designed for locating individuals in concealed areas, and five video cameras. Furthermore, the support included seven specialized vehicles—consisting of four off-road units and three vans—providing immediate logistical support.
These newly acquired vehicles and sophisticated equipment are earmarked for direct use by the Border Police and the National Unit for Combating Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking. Minister Toshkovski emphasized that the provision of this modern hardware is crucial for improving operational efficiency in combating transnational crime. The assets received are expected to significantly strengthen the capacity of local law enforcement agencies to detect and respond to smuggling and trafficking networks across the Western Balkans region.
