Acting President Haxhiu Pays Tribute at Dyz Marking Massacre Anniversary
Dyz – Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, honored the victims of a brutal massacre today, marking the 27th anniversary of the event carried out by Serbian forces against Albanian civilians during the Kosovo War. Speaking in Dyz, President Haxhiu reflected on the events of mid-April, 1999, when residents of the Llapi and Gollak regions sought refuge and were met with violence from the Serbian occupying forces. “There were no soldiers present,” she stated.
“Instead, it was men, women, children, elderly individuals, and ordinary citizens who simply desired to live in peace and with dignity.”
Haxhiu emphasized the nature of the attacks, describing them as “organized, planned violence” and “inhumane.” She recounted that over 200 unarmed Albanian civilians were killed during the targeted operation. The event remains a significant point of remembrance for the Kosovar people. The ceremony served as a solemn occasion to honor the memory of those lost and to reaffirm the commitment to preventing such atrocities from occurring again.
