Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has backed recent airstrikes in Lebanon, which have resulted in dozens of casualties. In a social media statement, Netanyahu asserted that the strikes were conducted “according to my instructions,” commending the actions of the Israeli military. These attacks in Lebanon have reportedly left at least 47 people dead, escalating concerns that further confrontations could undermine ongoing peace negotiations in the region.
Notably, Netanyahu did not address the existing ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, despite international efforts aimed at de-escalation along the Israel-Lebanon border. An Israeli military spokesman had previously stated that Israeli forces operating in Lebanese territory retain the “freedom of action” to respond to any perceived threat. The Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed that 47 fatalities were recorded due to the Israeli attacks on Lebanese soil.
According to the ministry’s statement, the strikes occurred between midnight and the afternoon, also injuring 97 individuals in the southern and Baalbek regions of Lebanon. Furthermore, the ministry reported that the cumulative death toll in Lebanon, since the escalation of the conflict in March, has reached 3,980. The focus remains on the political fallout from these military actions following Netanyahu’s support for the strikes.
