Nikolloski: Construction begins on the Skopje–Bllacë highway, building the main artery for connection to Kosovo and the region

Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Nikolloski announced the start of construction on the Skopje–Bllacë highway, a major infrastructure project intended to serve as a key connection between North Macedonia, Kosovo, and the wider region. The details of the highway project were discussed during a working meeting attended by Fatih Türkmenoğlu, the director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Nikolloski stated that the construction efforts will be managed by a consortium spearheaded by the domestic firm “Granit.” He highlighted the significance of a local company leading such a substantial infrastructure undertaking, noting it marks a return to local leadership on major projects.

The completion of the Skopje–Bllacë highway is expected to significantly enhance connectivity to Kosovo and Montenegro. Furthermore, the improved road network is anticipated to raise overall traffic safety standards in the region. The development is viewed as crucial for regional economic integration and improved mobility.

The new highway route is projected to streamline travel and commerce, directly linking the capital, Skopje, with key areas in Kosovo. This connection is anticipated to boost trade and facilitate easier movement of goods and people across the Balkan corridor. The commitment to this major infrastructure upgrade underscores efforts to modernize regional transport links, with Aleksandar Nikolloski overseeing the project’s progress.
