During a recent visit to Tetovo, Nikolaoski provided updates on several key infrastructure developments, highlighting significant progress in regional connectivity. He stated that based on current momentum, the initial kilometers of a planned project are expected to be completed next year. Furthermore, the primary highway connecting Tetovo to Gostivar is slated for full completion by the end of 2028.
Beyond road infrastructure, substantial work is progressing on the documentation for a major railway connection, developed in collaboration with the European Union. This ambitious rail network is structured across multiple phases. The initial phase focuses on establishing connections between Skopje, Tetovo, and Gostivar.
The second phase is planned for Kërçovë, followed by a third phase encompassing Ohrid, Struga, and the Republic of Albania. The overarching goal of this integrated transport system is to establish comprehensive intercity train lines. According to Nikolaoski, the development of these rail links is anticipated to yield significant benefits by substantially alleviating road traffic congestion, reducing the overall load on current transport arteries, and contributing to lower levels of pollution across the region.
The project is reportedly advancing through its planning stages, marking a major commitment to improving regional mobility and economic flow.
