Nikolloski: The high-speed train will travel from Skopje to Thessaloniki in 1 hour and 25 minutes and to Belgrade in 2 and a half hours.

At the Summit of Ministers of Transport for the Western Balkan countries, held in Thessaloniki, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski announced significant infrastructure upgrades slated for the region. Nikoloski stated that within the next five years, a new high-speed railway connection is expected to substantially reduce regional travel times. Specifically, the journey from Skopje to Thessaloniki is projected to take just 1 hour and 25 minutes, while travel to Belgrade could be completed in two and a half hours.

Nikoloski emphasized that Macedonia is entering a period of intensive infrastructure development, highlighting the construction of the high-speed rail line along Corridor 10. This vital corridor will extend from the border with Serbia to the border with Greece. The new railway system is designed for dual functionality, supporting both cargo and passenger movements.

It is slated to facilitate freight transport at speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour, alongside passenger services capable of reaching speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour. Officials suggest that the implementation of this advanced transport link will be transformative for the regional economy. The summit, organized by the Secretariat of the Community of Trans[portation], provided the platform for these announcements regarding regional connectivity.

The development of this high-speed rail network is positioned as a cornerstone for improving trade efficiency and integrating the economies of the Western Balkan nations through enhanced, rapid transit capabilities.
