“One-stop” agreement reached between Albania and North Macedonia

Albania and North Macedonia have formalized a new border agreement designed to streamline cross-border movement for their respective citizens. The new protocol, named “One Stop,” permits travelers to pass through customs checkpoints with a single point of entry process. The implementation of this streamlined procedure is scheduled to commence this month at the Qafë Thanë customs point.

Subsequently, the agreement will be rolled out to the Bllatë customs point the following month. The signing ceremony for this accord took place today in Dibër, involving the Albanian Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, and the North Macedonian Minister of Interior, Panwe Toshkovski, as reported by TCH. The initiative is anticipated to simplify the transit of both people and commercial goods.

Currently, the Bllatë customs point has processed approximately 4,600 citizens and 300,000 vehicles over the past five months, a volume attributed in part to the recent opening of the Arbrit road. This one-stop system aims to enhance efficiency at the border. By consolidating customs procedures, the agreement is expected to significantly reduce travel times and administrative hurdles for individuals and trade, thereby bolstering bilateral cooperation and cross-border commerce between the two nations.
