Pursue dialogue: It is a trap to link everything to Serbia, regardless of whether it recognizes us or not.

Gjini Warns Against Linking Future with Serbia

Kosovo candidate for prime minister, Ardian Gjini, has cautioned against establishing any connections with Serbia, irrespective of the country’s recognition of Kosovo’s sovereignty. Speaking on T7’s “Pressing” program on May 13, 2026, Gjini emphasized the importance of Kosovo’s independent economic development. He addressed what he described as a potential “trap” – the argument that Kosovo’s international recognition hinges on Serbia’s acknowledgement.

Gjini highlighted that several European Union member states, including five that do not currently recognize Kosovo, are NATO members. He asserted that the condition – recognition by Serbia – demonstrates Serbia’s lack of recognition of Kosovo. “Regardless of Serbia’s non-recognition,” Gjini stated, “Kosovo should focus on its own growth and integration within the international community.” He argued that accepting this conditional approach would effectively preclude Kosovo’s full integration.

Gjini’s comments reflect a desire for Kosovo to pursue its own path forward, independent of any future agreement with Serbia. The candidate stressed the need to avoid attempting to link Kosovo’s progress with Serbia’s stance, regardless of the situation.
