EU Ambassador Rokas Urges North Macedonian Parties to Prioritize EU Accession Talks
Skopje – The European Union’s ambassador to Skopje, Michalis Rokas, has issued a call for North Macedonia’s political parties to resolve their ongoing disputes surrounding the country’s stalled accession negotiations with the European Union. Rokas emphasized the need for pragmatism and unity as crucial steps toward achieving progress. Speaking on the four-year deadlock, Rokas stated, “North Macedonia belongs to the European family; in fact, we are much closer than we think.” He urged political actors to prioritize a collaborative approach, stating, “I believe that what is missing at this moment is some pragmatism and a desire for unity across the political spectrum to take the final steps towards the EU.”
The ambassador highlighted the EU’s historical role as a dependable partner, referencing the Ohrid Framework Agreement and collaboration with the United States to resolve previous challenges.
