RTK workers’ protest is suspended after the government’s allocation of 2.24 million euros

The Federation of Trade Unions of Kosovo (FTUK) has announced the postponement of a scheduled protest concerning the public broadcaster, RTK. The decision to delay the demonstration, originally set for Monday at 11:30 AM, follows the current government’s approval of an allocation amounting to 2.24 million euros for the institution. According to the union’s announcement, the funding package, which was approved during an electronic meeting on Friday, presents a potential pathway to resolving the broadcaster’s ongoing financial difficulties.

This financial instability had previously resulted in RTK employees going unpaid for a period spanning 13 days, as reported by KosovaPress. Despite the unresolved salary payments, the unions noted that RTK staff continued their duties without interruption, ensuring the uninterrupted transmission of public service content to the citizenry. However, the FTUK issued a clear statement clarifying that the postponement of the protest does not signal a resolution to the underlying labor dispute.

The unions emphasized that if the outstanding salaries are not disbursed in due course, a subsequent protest will be organized at a later date. This signals that the immediate funding approval, while noted, has not fully satisfied the workforce’s demands. The outcome of the salary payments will determine the next steps regarding labor action against the public broadcaster.
